Firefighter / EMT - Monday, November 23, 2015
Application Period – November 23rd, 2015 – December 11th, 2015 The Town of Haw River is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of Firefighter/EMT. Description of Job Duties: Perform fire control and rescue operations by entering burning structures and utilizing systematic search procedures to locate and rescue trapped victims and determine safe evacuation paths, locate fire sources and extinguish fires, operate heavy equipment and apparatus, force entry into structures, locate hydrants and other sources of water, operate hose lines, examine fire damage, salvage and overhaul; participate in pre-fire planning; serve during hazmat operations, severe weather operations and frequently work at elevated heights. Respond to traffic accidents; extricate patients from vehicles using extrication techniques and equipment; provide stabilization first aid and basic life support; mitigate minor hazmat incidents; secure scenes and extinguish vehicle fires. Respond to EMS calls; provide first aid and basic life support as an EMT-Basic; assist advanced life support providers by operating all rescue and medical equipment and vehicles. Maintain equipment and the facility by performing daily preventative maintenance, testing fire equipment and maintaining standard living conditions of the facility. Perform operational support and administrative duties by facilitating fire prevention education, fire truck displays, station tours, installing smoke detectors and assisting the public in emergency and non-emergency situations. Minimum Requirements: - Certified NC Firefighter or equivalency - Certified NC Emergency Medical Technician - 6 Months Firefighting Experience - Completion of High School Diploma or Equivalent - NC Driver’s License Salary: The salary range is $29,766 - $37,208 with the starting salary dependent on qualifications and experience. Written Essay Assignment: Application packages must include a written essay prepared by the applicant on the following topic; “What does having initiative in the fire service mean to you?” The essay should be a minimum length of one page, double spaced with a 12 font. General Maintenance Worker II - Friday, November 20, 2015
Description The Town of Haw River is currently seeking qualified applicants for the position of GENERAL MAINTENANCE WORKER II. The position works in the Town’s Public works department and reports to the Maintenance Superintendent for Public Works and Utilities. An employee in this class is responsible for work related to the maintenance of the streets, buildings, landscaping and sewer and water systems. This work requires more than usual physical strength and endurance and is subject to the hazards normally associated with utility construction. Work is performed under general supervision, depending upon the nature of the assignment and is evaluated by a supervisor through observation. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Proficient knowledge of the operation and maintenance requirements of the equipment and tools used in carrying out assignments. Proficient knowledge of the hazards in operating equipment and safety precautions to be taken. Proficient skills in operating motorized equipment and tools used to perform the work assigned. Proficient in operating backhoe, weed eater, mower and various hand tools. Ability to record meter readings accurately. Ability to understand and follow oral instructions. Ability to perform heavy manual work for an extended period under varying weather conditions. Education and Experience Candidates for the position are required to have graduation from high school and 5 years previous work experience sufficient to meet the knowledge, skills and abilities required or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Physical Requirements Work in this position is heavy work, and may require exposure to dust, grease, noise, inclement weather, temperature extremes, and unpleasant odors. Sewer repair work may cause exposure to potentially infectious bodily fluids. An employee must have such visual acuity as to be able to operate equipment and power tools. An employee in this class must be able to talk and hear in order to be able to respond to other employees. Special Requirements Must possess NC-DMV license. Must have the ability to obtain/possess NC-Class B CDL license; Collections 3 and Distribution C license within 24 months of hire. Pre-employment drug screen and criminal history check required. Part Time Park Positions - Friday, November 20, 2015
The Town of Haw River Parks and Recreation Department is now accepting application for part-time help. Duties include but not limited to overseeing park and activities, opening and closing of park, general maintenance, keeping park grounds neat and in order. This position will require night and weekend work and average 10 to 15 hours a week. The person selected for this position must be able to pick-up 50 lbs. or more on a consistent basis, able to push and pull with a large amount of force, walk, and drive. Must have sufficient education to perform job duties; high school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous experience not required but is preferred. Applicants must have valid NC driver’s license.
