_____     Counters are clean and uncluttered.
_____     Pot holders are within easy reach of the stove.

               plugged into separate receptacle outlets.
_____     All electrical cords are in good condition, without cracks or frayed areas.

Heating Safety :

_____     Furnace is serviced each year by a professional.
_____     NO propane tanks or gasoline stored inside the home.

Smoke Alarms/General Safety :
_____     Working smoke alarms are installed on the ceiling or high on the wall outside every bedroom.
_____     Batteries are replaced in all smoke alarms at least once a year.
_____     No smoking in bed as a rule in your home.
_____     All lit candles are out before you leave a room or go to bed.
_____     Matches, lighters, and other smoking materials are kept out of reach of children.
_____     All exits in your home clear of clutter.
_____     Your family knows what to do if there is a fire.(Fire escape plan and practice fire drills)

Discussing how to respond to an emergency reduces fear. It is critical that everyone knows what the
