Notification of Discharge of Untreated Waste Water in Alamance County

General Statute 143-215.lC requires that the owner or operator of any wastewater collection or Treatment works to issue a press release when an untreated wastewater discharge of 1,000 gallons or more reaches surface waters.     ·

The Town of Haw River, NC had a discharge of untreated wastewater on the evening of October 16th to the morning of October 17, 2016 of an estimated 28,000 gallons along an outfall between Hill Street and Lang Street.  Approximately 8,000 gallons of untreated wastewater was discharged into Gold Creek in the Cape Fear River Basin.

The spill was isolated and the Town has taken steps to mitigate and clean up spill.

The North Carolina Division of Water Resources was notified of the event on October 17, 2016 and is reviewing the matter.

The Town is releasing this press release as required under state law to publish such information.
